About Sree Shivaji Spoorti Kendram Srisailam

The site presently known as Sree Shivaji Sphoorthi Kendram is traditionally associated with Chhatrapati Sree Shivaji Maharaj (1630–1680), the founder of the Hindavi Swaraj. Historical tradition holds that in the year 1677, Sree Shivaji Maharaj visited this sacred location and undertook meditation and penance. According to religious belief, Goddess Bhramaramba, the presiding deity of Srisailam, bestowed her divine blessings upon him at this place, symbolizing spiritual sanction for his righteous governance and military endeavors, including the conferral of a Divine Sword as an emblem of dharma and sovereign authority.

Establishment of Shivaji Sphoorti Kendram (1994)

Over time, the original site associated with this tradition fell into a state of neglect and structural deterioration. Recognizing its historical, cultural, and spiritual importance, a decision was taken to preserve and commemorate the location. The construction of the present memorial, named Sree Shivaji Sphoorthi Kendram, was initiated in 1983 and completed in 1994, representing a significant effort in heritage conservation and national remembrance.

  • Land & Architecture:

The Sphoorthi Kendram is an imposing structure, rising to a height of 27 feet and covering an area of approximately 10,000 square feet. Architecturally, it incorporates traditional elements designed to reflect dignity and solemnity. The Meditation Hall is supported by 54 pillars and enshrines a 12-foot bronze statue of Chhatrapati Sree Shivaji Maharaj, serving as a focal point for reflection and reverence.

At the heart of the memorial lies the spacious Darbar Hall, within which a finely crafted bronze statue of Sree Shivaji Maharaj is installed on a 4-foot-high pedestal. This statue was formally unveiled in 1994 by the late Prof. Rajendra Simhaji, then Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The bronze statue in the Darbar Hall is considered unique in the country for its artistic expression and historical symbolism.

The conception and establishment of the Sphoorthi Kendram were guided by Sri Ram Mohan Rao ji, an RSS Pracharak and the founder of this institution. His vision was to create a national memorial that would inspire the youth of the country by highlighting the ideals, leadership qualities, and indomitable spirit embodied by Sri Shivaji Maharaj.

In addition to the statue, the Darbar Hall houses a mural exhibition depicting key episodes from the life and achievements of Sri Shivaji Maharaj. This visual narrative provides valuable historical information and context to the lakhs of tourists who visit the memorial each year. Open to the public, the Sree Shivaji Sphoorthi Kendram has emerged as a national memorial of inspiration, contributing significantly to historical awareness, cultural education, and the preservation of India’s rich heritage.
